Where to stay in Mostar - The cheapest hotel I found

Mostar is beautiful. And with such beauty, comes semi-high accommodation prices.

I think I have found a solution, though. A reasonably priced guesthouse, with some of the nicest hosts you could ever wish to meet, 15 minutes away from the Old Bridge.

Before I reveal all, let me give my thoughts on whether Mostar is worth a visit. It absolutely is, but I was there 10 days, which was more than enough time to see what I wanted to see. If I was to go back, I’d probably go for a shorter time, but if you do get the chance, it’s worth a visit as goodness me, it’s a pretty place.

The Old Bridge is the star of the show, and while it can get pretty busy, you can’t visit Mostar and not see it. The Old Town where the bridge is situated is very pleasant (you’ll notice you’re in the Old Town as the floor changes to cobbles), with lots of alleyways and shops.

Besides that, there isn’t loads for tourists to do. There’s a nice mall, and there is a walking tour that looked like it showed you where the city divide used to be, but I missed that. However long you’re in town for though, here is my recommendation on where to stay.

The hosts:

Let me start with the stars of the show, the hosts, Edina and Enis. As someone who travels a lot, you really notice people that go the extra mile for you, and this could not apply more to this adorable couple.

Day one for instance, I had a horrible overnight coach from Belgrade to Mostar, didn’t sleep, and got into Mostar hours before the usual check-in. Perhaps sensing my desperation, they came through for me, and let me check in earlier so I could finally nap.

Edina does most of the talking, as her English is better, but whenever I saw them together, we’d have a nice little chat, and as clichéd as it sounds, it really did have a homely feel.

They were also super generous. I think they gave me two lots of delicious fruit, which as someone who doesn’t eat too healthily, was welcome. They also gave me some pie another day. It felt like if Edina was cooking and I was there at the right time, I’d also be fed!

Have a look at the reviews on Google, Booking or wherever, and you’ll see so many people mention the same thing about the hosts, they really are that wonderful.

The price:

Guest House Mostar has to be one of the cheapest hotels in Mostar. I paid £304 for ten days during peak time (August), and this felt incredibly reasonable considering the prices of other guesthouses and accommodation in Mostar.

There may be other places that are similarly priced, or even a bit cheaper, but I’m pretty sure these won’t be in the centre like Guest House Mostar is, which leads me nicely on to my next section.

Location:

Guest House Mostar is very well located for the centre of Mostar. You’re around a 15-20 minute walk to the Mostar Old Bridge, and to get there, you walk down one of the main tourist roads in Mostar, with lots of shops and restaurants. I found walking to the Old Bridge was a great way to discover more in the city.

If you are coming into Mostar by bus, then Guest House Mostar is maybe a 5 minute walk from the bus station, if that, so you’ll be able to reach your accommodation, quickly, and easily.

As you can see, the Guest House is close to the bus station in Mostar

On the other side of the Old Bridge is more of the old town, but with Mostar being so small, it’s easy to navigate your way back to your room, which leads me nicely on to my next section (see what I’m doing here).

The Rooms:

Very nice! Super clean, and what I really liked was that there was a separate WiFi connection, so you should be covered throughout your stay (I had no issues).

I had a twin room, so two single beds, but it felt very bright (I love a light room), and it was really quiet. I was on the back end of the house, and there was no issue with noise or anything, and sleeping was fine. There isn't a TV, just in case you were curious, and there’s also a communal fridge available downstairs if you wanted to keep anything cool.

The bed was comfortable, and a single wasn’t a problem. I was also provided with a set of towels which as a traveller is welcome, as I don’t bring a big one with me.

There wasn’t much storage space, which wasn’t an issue for me, as I could use the other bed, but something to keep in mind if you’re travelling as a duo.

The Bathroom:

It’s a shared bathroom, which isn’t for everyone’s tastes, but honestly it was fine. I think there was one time in ten days I wanted to use the bathroom and it was occupied, and if you’re really in desperate need, then there’s another bathroom downstairs (or upstairs, depending on where you’re staying) you can check.

The bathroom was kept clean throughout

It was very clean, and bath mats/towels were changed regularly. There was also shower gel and shampoo provided which was a bonus, as I was running low. The shower pressure and temperature were fine throughout my stay.

Any extras:

So besides the amazing hosts, they also offer a washing service for 8 euros if you need it. I often need washing done, so this was very welcome for me, and everything is washed, dried, and returned to your room.

Would you stay here again?

This section feels almost pointless after my glowing words, but if I was back in Mostar, then absolutely. The place is very comfortable, with a great location, but those hosts, and I know I keep coming back to them, made such a difference.

As someone who has been to a lot of countries and a lot of hotels, you remember the good people, the lovely exchanges, and those who stood out to you.

Edina and Enis at Guest House Mostar are how every host should be, and they really added to my stay. Thank you!

You can find Guest House Mostar on Booking. If you click the link here, and search Guest House Mostar, you’ll be able to select the dates of your stay (there are four rooms in total, so you should hopefully be okay), and book.

Any bookings made through this link will help me with costs associated with running this website, so in advance, thank you!
