A lot of social media timelines are full of nonsense (the worst thing is, I work in social media, so this is my life). You open an app, you see an update from a high-school friend you haven't seen in 20 years, and you move on with your life.

This lasts for like ten minutes or so, until you repeat the previous step. Occasionally though, you find a gem in amongst the rough. An advert that isn't Temu, and one that, shock horror, seems to be relevant to you.

This is what happened with the Grounding Well floor mat, and how I actually ended up using something I saw on Facebook! I've had the mat and the bedsheet for over a year now, and here is my review of the product.

I also have a custom 10% discount for you to use on the Grounding Mat (this works in addition to any existing sales)!

All you need to do is order through this link and the discount code will automatically add, or use the code ANXIOUSTRAVELGUY at checkout, making your Grounding Mat even cheaper!

I've also written a review on the Grounding Well Bedsheet, as I know a lot of people are interested in that. You can read that, here.

Wait, slow down, what is a grounding mat?

Good question! Let's start with talking about grounding, the mat can wait. Grounding is a pretty simple concept, and according to the Grounding Well website: 'The act of grounding is simply connecting your body directly to the natural electrical energy field that exists on the earth’s surface.' Or in simple terms, taking your socks off and walking barefoot outside.

Think about how great you feel after walking barefoot on the sand, or on a nice patch of grass. This is grounding doing its thing! This was actually one of the things that first appealed to me when I saw the advert.

The majority of us work on computers, we're in offices, and we live in shoes. Even when we're done with work, we sit at home and play on our phones. We're constantly throwing our natural electrical rhythms out of sync, and what grounding does, in theory, is remove all of this surplus electricity, and let it escape back into the Earth, via the mat.

The grounding mat itself resembles half of a yoga mat, or perhaps, a giant mouse mat, and it's very easy to start your grounding journey. Here's what mine looks like:

Delivery:

Delivery was SUPER quick, and it was actually a very pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure where the item was being shipped from, and I am pretty sure it arrived within a week, meaning I was ready to get going much earlier than anticipated.

I was sent both the Grounding Mat, and the Grounding Bed Sheet, and both items were packed well, and presented smartly. The mat is curled up in this bag, and there were no issues with it not straightening out or anything. As soon as you take it out, it lays down flat on the floor.

I have kept the bag actually, and when I travel, I remove the surplus air when I insert the ground mat. You can actually get it pretty compact, without worrying about damaging the product. This is a huge plus point for me, as space is limited in my bag when I travel, so I was glad to see it didn’t take up too much room.

The mat comes with the connecting wire, and the plug adaptor. And with the bed sheet you also get a long connecting wire, and a plug adaptor. What I liked about these products is the fact it's so simple to just get going straight away. There's no complicated set-up process, and it takes five minutes to start using the products.

The Grounding Well Mat:

Okay, let's focus on the Grounding Well Grounding Mat, which as mentioned, is what I have primarily been using. Here's what it looks like when it's been laid down flat on the floor with your feet on:

A man's feet on a Grounding Well mat
I'm a UK size 10 if you're looking for an idea of how big the Grounding Well mat is

The mat itself feels leather to the touch, and it's a very nice sensation to rest your feet on it. To get going, you just pop the connecting cable end to the pin like button on the mat (as shown in the photos below), put the other end into the grounding port of the plug, and connect it to the mains.

I cannot stress enough, it's incredibly simple to set up and get going.

One thing that did initially confuse me, was the fact you can't tell if it's actually on, or doing anything. There's no green-light or anything that illuminates when the mat is active, which of course makes perfect sense (there is no electricity used with the mat), but it did slightly catch me off guard.

You can buy a voltmeter to test out your body's voltage both normally, and whilst using the mat, but this is far too much effort for a lazy person like me, so I'm just trusting the mat is doing what it's meant to. It's just slightly strange to not see an 'on' button or indicator.

The Grounding Well website actually has a very extensive FAQ section that shows you how to test the mat if you wanted to, and also answers some other important questions.

Do you feel anything when using the mat?

The brain is amazing, and as someone who deals with anxiety, I'm well aware of its power. There are times I use the mat, and I'm pretty sure I can feel a little tingling (in a good way), but I have no idea if this is a placebo of sorts.

Maybe I'm feeling something, maybe I'm not, but whatever it is, it's positive. I always feel better after using the mat, and I normally use it for between 15/30 minutes at a time.

Does it work?

Here's the million dollar question right, and why I'm sure you're reading the review to begin with. After over 1 year of using the Grounding Well mat, I'd absolutely have no reservations in recommending it. It definitely gives me a sense of relaxation, and I often combine using the mat, with reading a book, or something else that takes me away from my phone or laptop.

The Grounding Well website says that the grounding mat can help with the following:

  • Anxiety

  • Insomnia

  • Joint and muscle pain/stiffness

  • Asthma

  • Snoring

  • Muscle soreness from exercise

  • Fatigue

  • Diabetes symptoms

  • Neuropathy

  • Poor circulation

  • High blood pressure

  • Indigestion

  • Thyroid function

  • PMS

  • Jet lag

  • Digestion

  • Skin quality & much more

  • Many people also report vivid dreams while being grounded during sleep

Quite the list, I am sure you will agree. And as mentioned, for me personally, I use it for helping with my mental health (this is a blog about travelling with anxiety after all), and it absolutely does help there.

I love the fact that I can take the mat with me easily (I often check in a 20L bag), and as mentioned above, I use my mat time to remove myself from any electronics, and that break from phone scrolling feels like a bonus win on top of whatever good the mat is doing for me.

From the list of benefits above, I'd say it has helped me the most with anxiety, joint and muscle pain/stiffness (I walk a lot on my travels), and fatigue (you definitely feel energised after). Again, even if it is just a placebo, it's a damn good one! But, what I would say is, take a look at the Grounding Well website, take a look at the reviews, and you'll see for yourself that a lot of people swear by this piece of kit.

Any criticisms of the product?

Not really to be honest. As mentioned, it would be nice to know that the mat is actually on, but to reiterate, this would defeat the whole point of grounding in the first place.

Grounding Mat - Conclusion:

After over a year of use, the mat is still looking pristine, and it still feels like a bit of a treat to use it, as the quality of the materials is that good. I have rolled up mine on a number of occasions due to my life of travel, and there’s no curved corners or anything, it is still flat, and is showing NO signs of wear and tear. There are a few creases, but these usually disappear when you lay it out flat.

The wire is long, so you can use the grounding mat a good distance away from your plug socket which is also super helpful.

I am a VERY anxious person, I’m an overthinker, and I’m usually sceptical of anything like this. It’s a cliché, but when something seems too good to be true, or the reviews are that good, I raise my guard up, and refuse to believe the hype.

I can honestly say though, that the Grounding Well Grounding Mat has made a big difference to my life. The website can go into greater detail regarding the science, and how it works etc, but from my personal perspective, it has helped bring back some normality to my life.

As I wrote above, for me it acts as a chance to truly unwind. To take myself away from electronics, and to catch up with some reading, in 2025 feels like a blessing. I work on a laptop, I come home and use my phone, or open my personal laptop, I play PlayStation and watch TV. I know this isn’t a huge revelation, but our lives are basically controlled by electronics.

Using the Grounding Mat leaves me relaxed, and also weirdly makes me think I’ve accomplished something. Even if it is me just sitting down with my feet on the mat, afterwards I feel great that I did it, and that I’m helping my body out. It really is a big dopamine boost.

I don’t have a consistent time when I use the device. If I use it before bed, it definitely helps me sleep better, or if I use it in the morning, I feel super focused for a period after. I basically use it when I feel I need it, and it represents great value for money, because you use it so often.

If you’re on the fence, my advice would be to just go for it. At the time of writing this, the mat is £54.90, and the cost per use means it becomes an absolute bargain if you use it regularly.

Some hobbies and tasks can feel like a chore, but the Grounding Mat is a passive activity. As mentioned, I like to read during it, and the only real effort is putting the plug into the socket, and then taking it out.

Grounding Well also offers a 90-day risk-free guarantee, so if it’s not for you, you can return it and get a refund. Again, and apologies for once again busting out the clichés, you really do have nothing to lose.

And as promised, here is my unique code for you to get a further 10% off your Grounding Mat! This brings the cost of the mat down even further, and I hope this gives you the final push you need to purchase this incredible piece of kit.
