The best place to play pool and billiards in Hoi An

I was in Hoi An earlier this year for three months or so, and even though I could talk for hours on how friendly the people are, how beautiful the city is, how it’s a great place to live etc, I will save that for another post.
The title will give it away, but this article is here to tell you about my favourite place to play pool and billiards in Hoi An.
I actually found out about this place during my time at Coworking Hoi An (review coming on this place soon). There were weekly meetings where people could suggest an activity for one of the week nights, and as a big pool fan, I thought I’d throw that into the ring.
I was relatively new to Hoi An at the time, so didn’t know where to play, so shout out one of the coworking managers for suggesting The 1984 Billiards Club. It’s a little bit out of the centre (arguably a good thing as the centre is normally super busy), but very easy to get to, and there are loads of pool and billiards tables.

Location: You can find The 1984 Billiards Club here, and this is the address if you want to add it to Google Maps, Grab etc: 414 Cửa Đại, Cẩm Châu, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam.
It’s on one of the main roads into the centre, and if you’re coming by scooter or bike, there are parking options directly in front of the location. Hoi An is relatively walkable by Asian standards as well, so unless you’re on the other side of the city, it might be within walking distance for you. And if not, you can jump on the back of a grab and it will have you there in no time.

The Tables: I don’t play billiards, so was focused on pool, and you can find six tables at the back of the club, and two on the side. I think there were six billiards tables as well.
The tables are of a VERY good standard. I wasn’t sure what to expect on my first visit, but was amazed to see the staff cleaning the tables before we played, and bringing the balls, and gloves over to us. You basically just pick the table you want if there’s one free, and the staff will come to you.
The tables are quick, but the cloth was in really good condition, and the cushions were mostly fine. Considering how much action takes place on the tables, it was great to see that they were well maintained. There is plenty of chalk on and around the tables as well, so you’ll be well covered there.

The Cues: There was a huge collection of cues available, which was a more than welcome sight for yours truly. You’ll see them dotted around the club on the walls, and you can take any of the free ones you see.
The cues are of different weights and lengths, so take some time in finding one that you’re happy with, and if you start missing shots, just blame it on the cue and change it for another one.
The Cost: The 1984 Billiards Club is ridiculously cheap by western standards, with one hour of pool costing 60,000 dong as of May 2025 (around 2 euros/2.3 dollars). This includes the use of cues, chalk, gloves and the table.
What I really loved is that the prices remained the same whether you were a foreigner or a local. I’m sure we’ve all seen examples of foreigners being ripped off in places, but here, we were charged local prices.
The manager and staff are all super friendly, and while their English wasn’t great, it was still easy enough to communicate. I’m not sure on the billiards table cost per hour, so if any readers do know, feel free to share!
Food/Drinks: I only ever drank here, but all the prices were super reasonable. I don’t drink alcohol, but they do serve beer, and there are lots of places near the tables to sit, put your drinks down etc.
I can’t comment on the food offerings, but if I recall correctly, they had a few simple dishes (noodles etc) you could order. There is a counter where you can order food and drink from, and then you pay for your games at the same place later on.
Can you smoke here? I don’t smoke, but you are indeed allowed to smoke at The 1984 Billiards Club. There are ashtrays on the various tables dotted around the club, and while it could get a bit smoky if you were playing at the very back of the club, I personally didn’t find it too bad.
They would usually have the main windows open at the front, so there was a bit of airflow.
Conclusion: I didn’t check many spots to play pool in Hoi An, mainly because I was super happy with 1984 (coincidentally, the year I was born).
The location is great, tables and cues were of the highest quality, and most importantly, the price was super cheap.
If you are looking to play pool in Hoi An, The 1984 Billards Club is my recommendation (I’m not alone with my high praise of the place, check out the reviews here!)
I will leave you with this group photo of some of the Coworking Hoi An group during one of our night's out playing pool. A beautiful bunch, I'm sure you'll agree.
